Up the hill from the house
Picnic at Kate Sessions Park
A hillside lawn above Mission Bay with picnic tables, room to spread out and a view over the whole bay to downtown. It is the picnic we send people to, and it is best about an hour before sunset.
The map
Kate Sessions is up the hill to the north east of the house. Fanuel Street Park is south, on the bay.
Two parks worth knowing
One up the hill for the view, one down on the bay for the playground.

- Picnic
- Big lawn
- City view
A wide sloping lawn on the hillside above Pacific Beach, named for the horticulturist who planted much of Balboa Park. Grass, eucalyptus, picnic tables and a view straight down over Mission Bay to downtown. Street parking along Soledad Road.
Why we like itThis is the picnic. Bring food up from one of the Garnet Avenue shops, get there an hour before sunset and watch the light go over the bay.

- Calm water
A small park on the Mission Bay side with a playground, grass, picnic tables and a gentle bay beach. The water here is flat, unlike the ocean side.
Why we like itThe one to head for with small children. Bay water instead of surf, and a playground right there when they have had enough of it.
