Where we eat

Roughly in order of how far you have to walk, starting with the two on Cass Street that are barely a walk at all.

  1. The Fishery

    • $$$
    • Upscale casual
    • Special occasion

Upscale casual seafood restaurant and one of the best choices nearby for a nicer dinner. The menu focuses on fresh, seasonal seafood. It is also listed in the MICHELIN Guide.

Why we like itGreat food and a more elevated experience without feeling overly formal. Perfect for a date night, a celebration, or when you want a special dinner close to the house.

  2. Enoteca Adriano

    • $$
    • Nice casual
    • Italian

Nice casual Italian restaurant with authentic Italian food, homemade pasta and gnocchi, and a great selection of wine.

Why we like itIt feels like a small neighborhood Italian restaurant rather than a tourist spot. Great food, relaxed atmosphere, and an easy walk from the house.

  3. Sushi, sashimi and specialty rolls in the middle of Garnet Avenue

    PB Sushi

    • $$
    • Casual
    • Fun Garnet party vibe

Casual sushi restaurant in the heart of Pacific Beach serving sushi, sashimi, specialty rolls and Japanese dishes.

Why we like itGood quality sushi with a fun Garnet Avenue vibe. It is a great place to experience the energy of PB while still having a good sit down dinner.

  4. Oscar’s Mexican Seafood

    • $
    • Very casual
    • Local fish tacos

Very casual local spot known for fresh Mexican seafood, especially fish tacos, shrimp tacos and ceviche.

Why we like itThis is the place to go for a classic San Diego fish taco. Nothing fancy, just really good seafood and a great casual PB experience.

  5. Hideaway Pacific Beach

    • $$
    • Lively
    • Beach vibe

Casual, lively beach restaurant near Crystal Pier with pizza, burgers and American favorites.

Why we like itFun Pacific Beach atmosphere and especially good for lunch or an early dinner. It is close to the beach, so it is easy to combine with a walk along the boardwalk. Later in the evening it becomes more of a nightlife spot.

  6. Kono’s Cafe

    • $
    • Very casual
    • Ocean view breakfast

Classic Pacific Beach breakfast and lunch spot right by Crystal Pier, known for hearty breakfasts, breakfast burritos, burgers and sandwiches.

Why we like itThe view. Grab your food and find one of the ocean facing tables across the boardwalk. The seating is simple plastic chairs, but you are sitting right above the beach looking out at the Pacific. It is one of our favorite ways to start a morning in PB.

And for pizza

One a few minutes up Cass Street, one worth the longer walk down Mission Boulevard.

  1. Pizza Pal

    • $
    • Very casual
    • Closest pizza

A small pizza counter on the same block of Cass Street as The Fishery, which makes it the shortest walk on this page for anything hot.

Why we like itIt is the one you can actually get to and back from before anyone gets restless. Good for the night nobody wants to cook or go far.

  2. Theo’s Hot Pizza

    • $
    • Takeout only
    • Cheese special

There is no dining room at Theo’s. It is a takeout and delivery counter only, so plan on carrying it home or having it brought to you. Order ahead on (858) 263-4169.

Why we like itThe cheese special. Worth the walk down Mission Boulevard, and it travels well enough to still be good by the time you are back at the house.

Where we get coffee

Two of them are a few minutes away on Cass Street. The third is worth the longer walk when you want a bigger café to sit in.

The one to sit down in

Groceries and the corner-store run

One of these you can walk to in five minutes. The rest are a short drive, and worth doing once on the way in.

The walkable one

7-Eleven on Cass Street

4983 Cass St, San Diego, CA 92109 on Google Maps, opens in a new tab · about a 5 minute walk from the house.

Same street as the coffee shops, two blocks down. This is the one for milk, ice, a bag of charcoal or the thing you forgot, without moving the car. For beer and wine on foot, Criscola’s Liquor is further south on Mission, about a 12 minute walk.

A few things worth knowing

  • Hours move around. Pacific Beach kitchens change their hours by season and PorchLight closes at 1pm. Check before you walk over, especially for breakfast.
  • Hideaway turns into a nightlife spot later. Great for lunch or an early dinner with everyone. Later in the evening it is a different room.
  • Kono’s is worth the walk for the view. Order inside, then take it across the boardwalk to the ocean facing tables. Simple plastic chairs, right above the beach.
  • The two Cass Street restaurants are the short walk. When nobody wants to go far, The Fishery and Enoteca Adriano are both five to seven minutes.

These are our own recommendations. Nobody paid to be on this page.
